6 Ways to Support Tool Library

1) Become a Member

One of the best ways to get involved is becoming a member of the Toronto Tool Library. As a community project, we offer tool-sharing spaces and an innovation hub at $50 annual for a regular membership and $100/ month for Makerspace membership.  Get access to over thousands of tools, while Makerspace members have 24/7  access of our east-side Makerspace packed with 3D printers, a Laser Cutter, Wood shop and more. Learn more about our Membership options.

2) Donate your Spare Tools

Do you have any extra tools that are not being used?  Reduce the clutter and bring your tools to us for a second life with our community.  Come visit us and donate on-site at either of our East or West Locations. If you have large items or a collection of tools you are donating, you can Contact Us for Pick-up service! To learn more, visit our Donate Tools page.

3) Donate Funds

Help us grow and expand the Toronto Tool Library! Join our community of Supporters by making a donation to our registered non-profit, the Institute for a Resource-Based Economy.* Because we are a non-profit organization, every dollar we raise goes back into our community spaces and the success of our Tool Libraries. To learn more about the work we do and our non-profit arm, read Our Story.

Donate today through PayPal or mail a cheque with Tool Library in the memo line to:

Institute for a Resource-Based Economy
at the Centre for Social Innovation
720 Bathurst Street
Toronto ON M5S 2R4, Canada

*As a registered non-profit, IRBE does not issue charitable tax receipts.

4) Volunteer Exchange

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help run the Tool Library! By volunteering for 3 shifts per month (5 hours per shift),  we offer an exchange of a FREE Makerspace Membership (worth $100/ month) and a FREE Tool Library Membership (worth $50 annually). Plus volunteers receive discounted and access to all our events. Read our Volunteer Exchange page for more.

5) Join the “Tool Ninja” Team

Join our community of Makers with our Tool Ninja program! We’re looking for trades people and individuals with tech or tool skills to train our members. Members will be able to select you for one-on-one mentoring and you’ll be offered a fee for your instructing. Also, if members are interested in hiring you for a particular job, we’ll help you get work with a profile on our website and promotion in our newsletter and social media. While we cannot guarantee that you will be hired nor the frequency of paid work, we will promote your services to our members. What we ask in return is for a small finders fee (to be negotiated) to help us maintain our operations and programs. If you are interested in joining the “Tool Ninja” team, please Contact Us and let us know what trades or services you offer.

6) Become a Partner

Our partners are wide ranging, from government to companies and communities! We join forces with organizations to help run events, such as with Centre for Social Innovation. We support start-up sharing projects like The Kitchen Library and the Toronto Seed Library. As well, we are looking to expand our operations with locations in Condos & Co-op buildings, Sport Sheds in parks and with Complimentary Currencies. If you have a partnership opportunity for an event, sharing project or want to join us in our expansion — please Contact Us or read more in our Partnership Page.
